Over the next few weeks, we want to introduce you to some of the brilliant team behind Wemyss Malts. First up is our Whisky Blender and Wemyss Malts Brand Manager, Steven Shand.

“My love of whisky developed through late night, fireside drams shared with my Uncle and Aunt whilst I was studying animation in Edinburgh.

After graduating Edinburgh College of Art I joined the team at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s (SMWS) home venue in Leith; The Vaults. There I developed a strong knowledge of whisky through hosting tastings and attending tasting panels.

I managed a whisky shop on the Royal Mile which, at the time, held the largest selection of single cask whisky, Scottish craft beer and craft spirits of any shop in Edinburgh. After establishing the shop, I worked as a spirits consultant for several independent spirits producers.

I joined Wemyss Family Spirits in 2016 to assist in brand management for Wemyss Malts. After the release of Kingsbarns' first single malt, my focus turned solely to Wemyss Malts. I've recently trained as the blender for Wemyss Malts releases and manage the day to day marketing of the brand.

I love my role at Wemyss Malts for its variety; from cask selection and blending, to designing our packaging, general marketing and events. Working for a small, family run spirits producer with a dynamic team means your personality and ideas can have a real impact. That's very rewarding."
